In the S-M-A-R-T acronym, the letter A stands for “agreement with your inner self and those around you.” Agreement means harmony, mutual support, and even love.

For there to be agreement between the inner world of our values, goals, and beliefs and the outer world full of contentious individuals with conflicting ideas, we must find a deeper level of commonality.

That agreement is based on your personal connection to universality. Steve Jobs expressed this agreement perfectly: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.

So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

Today’s meditation (Successful Emotions) centers on the role our emotions play in supporting our success. Nothing is more intimate to us than our emotions. The current feelings that underlie all of our thoughts and physical sensations have a major influence on every choice we make. Even after careful, rational analysis, we tend to make our final decisions based on what feels right to us. For that reason, it is vital that we heal and train our emotions to be reliable and trusted allies. We want our emotions to support our success. Emotions like anger, depression, and anxiety can undermine our success, but the answer is not in repressing emotions. Emotions need to move and settle into calmer patterns so that they can reliably support our success with insight, energy, and joy. In today’s meditation: The Nature of Perfect Health, we discuss how it is our evolutionary impulse to progress in our lives, to seek and attain balance, and to be healthy and strong. While our bodies naturally move toward balance, there are things we can do to aid in this process. For instance, we can send our bodies messages of love and support by eating nourishing foods, getting proper rest, and engaging in activities that make us feel truly alive. Congratulations on completing our first week together! Today, our meditation centers on honoring your body, the temples that are the vehicles for our souls. By keeping our bodies healthy and strong, we are better able to turn our energy toward deeply meaningful experiences, spending time with loved ones, enjoying the beauty of nature all around us, and pursuing our own spiritual paths. Because this body is the only one we have, we must treat it with great love and respect, so that it will, in turn, enable us to enjoy all those things we love. Today’s meditation focuses on restoring balance and how we can become more self-aware. Throughout our days, we tend to repeat the same activities without thinking much about them. At some point though, we become aware of these habits, and later, we may even become self-aware, wondering why these habits are part of our lives and deciding whether they benefit us. Our entire journey together over these three weeks is one that will lead us to greater self-understanding.
