In today’s meditation: Breathing for Balance, we take a closer look at something we all do every day – breathing. Everything that is alive is energized by a force called prana. Prana means “energy” or “life force,” and in humans, that life force is the breath.
Whereas most of our breathing is regulated automatically, conscious breathing can completely shift our perception. When we close our eyes and simply witness the breath as it flows in and out of our nostrils, we invite peace and balance into our lives, bathing our brains and every cell of our bodies in energy and vitality.

DEEPAK CHOPRA
All living things are enlivened by energy called "Prana", a force that pulses through each of us and gives us life.
In sanskrit, "Prana" simply means breath, and while "Prana" energizes us in the form of breath, any form of energy, light, heat, and electricity is also considered "Prana".
"Prana" catalyzes all activity, it is consciousness the connection, to the true self.
Cultivating "Prana" in our lives can bring us greater energy and mental clarity.
Practicing many of the techniques we've been discussing, such as meditation, enjoying our favorite activities, and spending time in nature, enlivens our "Prana", and makes us feel whole.
There are also easy conscious breathing techniques, known as "Pranayama", that will bring greater vigor into our lives and improve our mental and physical states.
Just a few minutes of conscious breathing, especially when we are feeling stressed or anxious, can completely shift our mood and perspective, and bring us a sense of calm.
The more we practice connecting with our breath, our life force energy, our "Prana", the most spontaneously we'll find that we move from our current state of awareness, into one that allows us, a more expanded understanding of ourselves, and the world around us.
As we move into our meditation practice, let's consider our centering thought:
I am one with the breath of life.
I am one with the breath of life.
I am one with the breath of life.
Sitting comfortably. Close your eyes. Begin breathing through the nostrils, inhaling and exhaling slowly.
As you continue, imagine the breath as it flows in and out, in and out.
You may have heard someone say, watch the breath, and this is all that means, envisioning the breath flowing through the nostrils.
Now gently mentally introduce the mantra:
SO HUM. Which means: I am.
SO HUM.
Whenever you find yourself distracted by thoughts, or sensations, or noises, just go back to repeating the mantra:
SO HUM.
Continue with your meditation. At the end you'll hear me ring a soft bell, letting you know when it's time to stop.
SO HUM.
Now just in the mind.
SO HUM.
~ Meditation ~
Please stop repeating the mantra, inhale and exhale slowly, and allow some time to rest. When you feel ready, you can open your eyes.
Throughout your day, contemplate the centering thought:
I am one with the breath of life.
I am one with the breath of life.
I am one with the breath of life.
